Kansas, KS

Kansas is a landlocked U.S. state of the Midwest region, bordered by Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma and Colorado. Although the area was populated by Native American tribes over thousands of years, the first permanent European settlers arrived in the area of Bonner Springs in 1812, leading to a large population boom throughout the nineteenth century. The state is predominantly low-lying, as it is made up mostly of the U.S.’ great central plains. This made the area highly productive for agricultural settlers, of which 90% of the state’s land is used for to this day. The state capital of Kansas is Topeka, meaning “a good place to dig potatoes” in the Kansa-Osage Native American language. The largest city of Wichita is known as a centre of the aerospace industry.

California, CA

California is the third-largest state in the United States of America. It is considered a trend setter in world fashion, entertainment and innovation. The state houses top tourist destinations like Disneyland, Hollywood, the Golden Gate Bridge, and Alcatraz. For a long time, it has had the largest economy in all of the USA and would be the fifth largest economy in the world if it were a sovereign state. In 1997, California became the first state in the USA to hit the trillion dollar mark in gross state product. The state is also known for being the largest producer of wine in the country. About 90% of all wine in the USA is produced here.

Nebraska, NE

Nebraska is in the Midwestern United States and was admitted as the 37th state in 1867. Lincoln is the capital of Nebraska. It is known as a ‘music city’ and is the second most populous city in Nebraska and the 71st largest in the United States. Manufacturing has increased in the state since World War 2 with metals, electrical machinery and transportation equipment being important industries. Nebraska also has a large agriculture sector making them a major producer of corn, soybeans, beef and pork. In the state, there are two major climate zones represented, the eastern half and western half. The western half has hot summers and cold winters whilst the eastern half has very humid weather.

Virginia, VA

Virginia (VA) is the 10th largest state in the United States and its capital city is Richmond. It was named after Queen Elisabeth the 1st of England who instructed Walter Raleigh to form a colony to the North of Florida. An interesting fact is that all new land found by the British was named Virginia. Its also named the Mother of Presidents because it was where 8 of America’s presidents were born.

The local community claims that the first ever Thanksgiving feast was organized in Virginia. For about a century, one of the most famous yearly events is the gathering of about 100 wild horses which swim from Assateague Island across to Chincoteague Island in East Virginia.

Tennessee, TN

As the 36th largest state in the United States, Tennessee (TN) is most famous for its country music, exciting landscapes, and various food and brewery inventions.

The state’s capital is Nashville. Not only is Tennessee where Elvis was born, but many other artists were also born here including Dolly Parton, Justin Timberlake, and Miley Cyrus.

The Great Smokey Mountains outrank the Yosemite Natural Park and the Grand Canyon as the most visited national park. The grounds shelter the largest sub-glacial lake, the Lost Lake, in the United States which is part of the Craighead Caverns system. It’s also the original home of food inventions such as Mountain Dew, moon pies and cotton candy.

North Carolina, NC, lies on the east coast of America surrounded by the states of South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Situated in the South Central region of the USA, Oklahoma is the 28th most populous state. Oklahoma City is the state capital with a population of more than 1.3 million people. Wyoming, WY

Wyoming is the least populous state in the United States, consisting of many mountainous ranges and bordered by Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah and Idaho. Its capital city, Cheyenne, has a population of just under 60,000 people and is named after the Cheyenne tribe, one of the more prominent Native American tribes in the region. South Dakota, SD

South Dakota, which became a state in 1889, is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux tribes who historically lived in the area, and many of whom still live there today. Its population is small and its economy is mainly based on farming and ranching.
